If You Haven’t Listened To Them In A While…
Tuesday, July 11th, 2006Today’s the day. I am going to create a playlist in my iTunes folder so I can listen to the old great Pink Floyd songs, and think of Syd Barrett who died this week.
Do you have a special memory (or a lot of special hazy ones) tied up in a Pink Floyd song? My girlfriend Amalia loved the song “Wish You Were Here;” I never imagined I would listen to it and think of her following her suicide. Now it is part of the soundtrack of my life, in memory of hers. Years later, I can listen to the song and smile, and Wish She Was Here.
“Shine On You Crazy Diamond” was written by the other members of Pink Floyd about Syd Barrett — a fitting tribute today.
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the cross fire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger,
you legend, you martyr, and shine!
